Dad blogger The Honest Dad questions the pros and cons of a life spent at home.

Would I give it up to be a stay-at-home dad?

As the days get progressively sunnier and the summer approaches, I find myself questioning if I really want to work anymore… Obviously, in reality, it isn’t a viable option. But it’s nice to dream. Or is it a dream?

Each morning, I hate leaving our little boy. He’s at an age now where he waves and calls “Dada” from the window; it makes leaving the house so difficult. I know some dads are relieved when they get to go to work, but I always detest leaving home. I love my job, don’t get me wrong, but I sometimes think I’d prefer to be a stay-at-home-dad.

The problem is, I’m not sure I’d be able to do it. There’s the obvious draw of spending all of my time with the boy – but it is hard work. As any parent knows, entertaining and caring for a baby is a full-time job and anyone who says any different doesn’t truly understand how intense it can be. I swear I’m ten times more tired if I’ve had a day with the baby than if I’ve had a hard day at work.
