Losing yourself in the whirlwind of fatherhood? There’s an app for that.

Try out these useful free apps

1. Doodle

Making time for a social life as a new parent can be tough, let alone making the time to plan one. Doodle solves this problem by cutting out the endless back and forth to find a date that works for you and your mates. Just set up an event, add all of your possible dates and send out the invitation. Your friends then simply select the times they’re available and Doodle will work out what time works best. You can even use it to select the venue or meet up point, just enter the suggested locations into a poll and everyone can vote for their favourite.

Free to download on iOS and Android. (Your friends don’t need to have the app for it to work.)

2. AroundMe

This app is a godsend for all dads caught short in an unfamiliar area. Need to find a petrol station quickly? How long to the nearest hospital? How far to the nearest bar (when you’re off the parenting clock)? AroundMe has all of these answers and most importantly, can point you to the nearest toilets when your little one is in a pinch.

Free to download on iOS and Android.

3. BBC Sports App

This app, as you might expect, gives you access to all the latest sports news, scores and highlights – brilliant for when you’re too busy with baby to follow every match that matters to you. Even better, the new ‘My Sport’ page allows you to build your own sporting hub that updates in real-time, ensuring you’ll never be behind on a goal, wicket or touchdown again.

Free to download on iOS and Android.

4. Pocket

Can’t find that article you meant to revisit? Looking for the YouTube video you didn’t have a chance to watch before baby woke up yesterday? Next time, just save it to your ‘Pocket’. So when you next have a minute to yourself, all those news articles and viral videos will be ready and waiting.

Free to download on iOS and Android.

5. Todoist

As it sounds, this app lets you create useful to do lists, with a twist. Gone are the days of a shopping list written on the back of an old envelope. Todoist lets you and your family create shared lists, whether that’s this week’s shopping or tasks that need to be done around the house. The app will then let you see how everyone is progressing and notify you once the task is complete. You can also assign specific tasks, so no-one ends up bearing the brunt of the workload.

Free to download on iOS and Android.
