Here are five ways to create the perfect camping trip without even leaving home.

Did you know that your back garden can also be your dream camping space?

Pitch your tent

You don’t have to migrate into nature to go on a camping trip. Makeshift your own campground in your very own backyard. Use sheets as tent covers, pillows and blankets can be sleeping bags, or you can save yourself some time and buy these from the store.

S’more making

Gooey marshmallows, melted chocolate and warm graham crackers. Yes, please! Smore’s are always a hit with children and are tons of fun to make. If you don’t have access to a bonfire or are just not about having an open fire in your backyard, you can always make these sticky treats in an oven or cooker.

Scavenger hunts

Make a list of things that can be found in your backyard, or even add some new things to increase the camping theme. Your child will have fun scouting out items and checking them off the list.

Bonfires with storytelling

Storytelling is a great to sneak in literacy skills for your young ones and even older ones. You can create your own spooky story or invite your children to pick out their favourite books to bring with them. Cosy up around the fire and tell stories under the starry night sky.

Nature walks

This camping retreat is not only limited to the backyard. Set the whole outdoorsy mood by taking a nature walk around your neighbourhood or local park. Have your child collect leaves or rocks to decorate the tent with – it will make them feel a part of the entire camping experience.

It doesn’t take much to create a memorable camping trip. If you’re looking to get your family a little more in touch with nature, try exploring all the great camping spots the UK has to offer.
