Grumble less on your journey to work with these five ideas for making the most out of your commute.

Whether it’s 30 minutes or an hour, a good chunk of our day is, often unwillingly, spent commuting back and forth to work. But it can be a time of great productivity if you use it wisely.

Why not try these five ideas the next time you’re stuck on public transport?

Read a book

We’ve all got that growing list of books to read. A commute to work is the perfect time to dig in to a good book. If you’re looking for suggestions, check out our latest ezine for noteworthy books. Books come in so many formats these days. If you don’t want to lug a book around, there are apps for reading, tablets and even audio books.

Plan your day

Take this time to make a game plan for the day or even the week. Sitting and organising all the days to-dos, will help you feel more productive and ready to take on the day. Or maybe you have an important meeting that day, so take this time to prepare for it.

Catch up on emails

It seems as soon as you step out of the office your email box explodes. Use the time on your daily to commute to clear out that inbox and send out emails that are awaiting responses.

Relax

This could be just the amount of time you need to disconnect or recharge. Set a relaxing playlist and leave your troubles behind. But it doesn’t have to be the sound of running waters or whale songs – instead make a playlist of all your favourite tunes.

Listen to a podcast

Podcasts are great for people on the go and there is a topic for everything you could want to learn more about. Plug in your earbuds and educate yourself more on different topics while on your way to and from work.
