Pop Songs Replace Lullabies

Forget Baa Baa Black Sheep and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

Babies today are falling asleep to Beyonce and Taylor Swift according to research by parenting experts Emma’s Diary.

Almost a third of parents have taken to singing pop songs instead of traditional lullabies to their kids, claiming that they feel more familiarity with current music that they know the lyrics to.

Ed Sheeran, Adele and Sam Smith are also among the favoured modern day musicians who are helping parents send their babies to sleep, with songs like Someone Like You, Thinking Out Loud, and Stay With Me making the top 10.

2. Adele – Hello
3. Bob Marley – Don’t Worry About A Thing
4. Adele – Someone Like You
5. Sam Smith – Stay With Me
6. Tracey Chapman – Fast Car
7. Ellie Goulding – Love Me Like You Do
8. Beyoncé – Halo
9. Oasis – Wonderwall
10. Taylor Swift – Shake It Off

But the traditional lullaby isn’t dead yet – of those surveyed 43% said Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is still their favourite lullaby.
