Buggies and Strollers Product Reviews

ABC Design Takeoff

Takeoff
Written by Sam Skelding

The Takeoff by ABC Design is a little ‘outside the box’, but comes jam-packed with a host of creative and practical features.

First Impressions

The Takeoff certainly has a unique shape, which showcases some of the innovative engineering in play. The chassis is lightweight yet sturdy, and the interesting handlebar structure – despite sitting a lot higher than on many other models – feels both secure and well balanced.

The bright colours and fabrics are also a definite standout on this stroller. With striking options for 2015 including Coral, Cranberry, Lime and Rio, all of which can be mixed and matched with the accessories.

Features

Usefully, the Takeoff can form a travel system when used with the ABC Design 0+ Risus Car Seat or Maxi Cosi and Cybex models using the adaptors. This makes travelling by car with a young baby simple and although it does look slightly strange when converted – as you don’t remove the seat – this doesn’t reduce its practicality.

The seat is padded but supportive, and you get a real feeling of security from the harness, partly because of the durable material which is similar to a car seat belt. It’s also a 5-point, so you don’t have any worries about your little one slipping, while the adjustable backrest has been ergonomically designed to provide a healthy position for your child, whether they are lying, reclining or sitting.

Collapsing the Takeoff involves just a fold and click. Unlike many other buggies, it has a transport lock making it so much easier to pick up, carry and move in and out of the car. Weather-wise, the hood is quite high and does leave your child a little exposed, but you can detach the rear section and store it. Parents will also be pleased to know the cover incorporates water-repellent fabrics.

Another great feature is the removable bumper bar, which means you can lift your little one in and out with ease. It’s height adjustable and helps children feel secure, particularly across bumpy ground. You can also attach your child’s toys to this – a definite bonus for keeping them amused while you’re doing a supermarket shop!

Other unique inclusions are a practical storage pocket in the hood and reflective strips to ensure maximum visibility in the dark.

FQ Verdict

The Takeoff manages to balance a forward-thinking and fashionable design with all-important safety for your child.
