The Cybex Aton Q combines trendy design and rigorous attention-to-safety.

First Impressions

As you might expect from CYBEX, who dedicate themselves to creating products for stylish and trend-focused parents, the Aton Q is a beautiful car seat. The lines are smooth and attractive, while the pod shape looks like a blend between a seashell and something out of a science fiction film. The styling may be out of this world, but the unit feels very secure and rooted in protecting your youngster. 10 different colourways – including good unisex options – and two fabric styles means there’s also plenty of opportunity for dads to match up to their car’s upholstery.

Installation is pretty straightforward and user-friendly, with step-by-step instructions coming with the seat. Usefully, although a compatible ISOFIX system is available for this model, it can also be secured quite simply with a seat belt. As always, don’t forget to get an expert installation demo before buying!

Features

Following on from the multi-award winning Aton 2 and the Aton 3, the robust Aton Q follows the CYBEX S.D.F principle, which uses new research to offer higher levels of safety and functionality. The innovative side impact protection means that initial forces are transferred away from the baby and absorbed by the car seat’s energy-absorbing shell instead, so you know that your little one is as safe as possible.

Comfortable and ergonomic, a real standout feature of this seat is that it’s designed to provide optimum safety for premature and small newborn babies. New babies are very delicate and parents often feel anxious for their safety, but the Aton Q really provides that extra reassurance. German medical specialists and midwives worked on the design to enable the flattest possible lying angle between head, neck and chest to reduce the risk of breathing difficulties, meaning your baby’s head can’t fall forward while they sleep.

However, one negative is definitely the weight of the seat – a whole kilo heavier than its predecessor – but this is easily overlooked with the safety features in mind.

Using adaptors, the Aton Q can form a travel system with the CYBEX Callisto, Topaz and Onyx strollers (or models from Bugaboo, Mamas and Papas and Baby Jogger). With a staggering eight height adjustments available, the seat also grows easily with your baby.

FQ Verdict

Delivering on both style and exceptional safety, the Aton Q is a sturdy yet sleek choice for parents with young babies.
