Escape to Sicily

Looking to soak up some sun and create those hallmark holiday memories? Take your family to Sicily this summer.

Sitting at the same latitude as Morocco and Tunisia, the island enjoys warmer weather earlier in the year and for much longer than many other European destinations; the mercury even reaches over 30 degrees Celsius in peak summer! Plus, with this patch of paradise only being a three hour flight from London and the Euro performing well, now is the perfect time to whisk your small clan away.

So, what can you discover on the island?

Beaches

Rabbit beach in Lampeusa was voted as the top beach in Europe and third in the world in the 2015 Traveller’s Choice awards. Your kids will love the crystal clear water and an abundance of fish make it perfect for snorkelling, while the sandy beach is great for relaxing and bathing in the sunshine – with a high SPF of course.

Other beaches not to miss include Cefalù to the north of the island, Plemmirio in Syracuse on the south east coast, Riserva dello Zingaro in Trapani on the west coast and the impressive white cliffs of Scala dei Turchi in Agrigento on the southern coast. The majority of beaches in Sicily are pebbly as opposed to sandy, so if you have a pushchair, it’s worth checking in advance to ensure a smooth day out.
