If, like me, you enjoy nothing more than a little death, mayhem and destruction when the missus is out and the nipper is tucked up in bed then this one’s for you. Forget World War Two, World War One has carried on until 1964 and the subsequent 50 years of war has created a nightmare scenario where battles are fought with modern technology in squalid trenches. A first person shoot ‘em up not entirely dissimilar from the Medal of Honour series, Ironstorm offers many a pleasure for the bloodthirsty dad including lobbing hallucinogenic gas grenades to disorientate the enemy and then picking them off individually with your sniper rifle with deadly head shots.
Bizarrely satisfying and horribly addictive, Ironstorm offers little in the way of puzzles for the old grey matter but it does give your trigger finger a decent work-out. What’s more, there are plenty of opportunities to ‘save’ your game along the way – perfect if you’ve got just a small window of gaming opportunity. A multiplayer option also gives you the chance to take out any frustrations you might have on the wife, visiting friends, or neighbours pestering you to return their lawnmower.
So put the kids to bed first because this one’s loud, tense and very, very nasty.
