If you’re new to veganism or just doing it for Veganuary, we’ve got some easy swaps to help you along the way.

Going vegan may not be as restricting as you think, it also doesn’t have to be that difficult. If you’re going vegan for the whole of January – also known as Veganuary – try starting with these easy swaps to help you it.

Why try a plant-based diet?

It seems like more and more people are going vegan than ever. Even celebrities can be seen promoting their plant based diets. But what are the benefits of veganism, and why should you practice this even outside of Veganuary.

Healthier skin is one of the effects of introducing a vegan diet in your life as well as hair and nail growth. Many have also boasted that since going on a plant based diet they have seen an improvement in their blood pressure and cholesterol levels, as well as an overall increase in their cardiovascular health. Some have even noted that this diet has helped with weight loss.


One of the most popular ingredients in our diet is meat. That may seem like the most drastic change to completely cut it out. However, there are endless options you can use instead. Tofu is the most common substitute and one of the easiest ones to cook with.

Another great option is jack fruit. Jack fruit has become increasingly popular in the vegan community even outside of Veganuary, due to its meat like texture.


Another huge element of our diets is dairy. Just like meat, there are various options when thinking of what to swap in its place. There is soy, almond, coconut and even oat milk available.

If you’re looking for an alternative that has the most nutrients, though, soy milk is going to be your go to. It out ranks the other non-dairy alternatives it terms of calcium and vitamins. There are also these same options for yogurt. More and more brands are offering non-alternatives, so don’t worry about having limited options there.


If you look forward to scrambled eggs in the morning, then you’ll probably want to stick to a tofu scrambled egg recipe. However, if you’re looking for something to replace eggs with while baking, then you can use things like smashed bananas, applesauce or even peanut butter.
