Modern men have an ever-evolving list of interests and concerns, and aspiring to look younger seems to be the latest priority.

The way we view ourselves and those around us has changed considerably and, according to statistics from 2013, the male UK skincare market is now worth an estimated £600m.

Jessica Punter, styling and grooming editor of GQ, has stated: “…this side of the industry has gone from infancy to a fully-fledged market in a relatively short space of time. When I began covering grooming in 2006, we were still at the stage of trying to convince men to moisturise – let alone pay for facials or manicures.”

With many of us guys now endeavouring to take pride in our appearance, here are a few tips on how dads can keep themselves looking young:

Get enough sleep

Getting enough shut-eye can really make a difference to how you look. The majority of adults need at least seven hours every night in order to feel refreshed. Dark circles and bags under your eyes can really age you! By having a consistent sleeping routine you can get the rest your body needs, improving both your alertness and general well-being.

Take multi-vitamins

Multi-vitamins are micronutrients your body isn’t able to produce on its own, so they must be derived from elsewhere. These micronutrients work by nourishing your cells, which results in healthy skin when consumed in sufficient quantities. Particular vitamins can also repair cellular damage by neutralising harmful free radicals and decelerating the ageing process. The best way to get your daily dose of vitamins is to eat plenty of fruit and veg, though our busy lives often leave us with little time to prep food.

Keep hydrated

Dehydration can lead to parched, wrinkly skin. Those fine lines around your eyes could be a sign that you’re not drinking enough water, so it’s essential you keep hydrated to ensure youthful, plump skin cells. Consume eight 200ml glasses of water a day and, if you are active, eight glasses should just be a minimum. Invest in a reusable water bottle, fill it up in the morning and keep sipping throughout the day.

Skin care

Your skin is the biggest teller of age so it’s well worth looking after it. There are recommended ways to wash your skin; use lukewarm water when it comes to washing your face as heat can strip your face of its natural oils, massage the skin as you wash and invest in a good moisturiser, especially for winter as the cold air can dry out your cells.

Wrinkles

Wrinkles are something that most guys worry about but there are a few tips you can take advantage of to help ease or get rid of them completely. Wearing sun block, eating more fruit and veg, quitting smoking and undergoing non-surgical procedures such as chemical peels and anti-wrinkle injections can all help reduce their presence.

Hair

Your hair is linked to appearing younger. Banishing the grey (unless you are rocking the old salt and pepper look, keeping your beard neatly trimmed and maintaining your hair and scalp health can keep you looking fresh and healthy. The haircut you choose can also have an impact on how old you look, so if you’re looking for something a little younger, it’s best to ask your hair-dresser or barber for their opinion on what style will suit your face.
