How to celebrate Earth Day

We celebrated Earth Day on 22nd April but here’s how to keep the celebration going all year long.

We should be taking care of Earth every day and not just on Earth Day. So here is our quick guide to living a more Earth-conscious life.

Reduce, reuse, recycle

It’s more than just a catchy song. Reducing things like waste and energy are great ways to save our planet. Recycling maybe the easiest of the three. This is also an activity the entire family can get involved with. Things like plastic, paper and cardboard are the most used items in households. Instead of just throwing them away, drop it in your recycling bin or try to find another purpose for it in your home.

Compost

Composting is a great way to eliminate food waste and help your garden grow. Save things like fruits, vegetables, egg shells and even coffee grounds to make a nutrient filled compost for your garden. You can even make your own compost bucket with materials you can find around the house. Once your bucket is full add your freshly made compost, also known as plant fertiliser, to your garden and watch your plants and flowers flourish.

Reduce energy

The UK is already ahead of the game with on/off switches on all the outlets. But you can even go a step further by switching to LED lightbulbs or compact fluorescent bulbs in the house. Try hopping on public transportation to get to and from work a couple times of week to limit gas emissions. Finally, use an air dryer to dry your clothes rather than a drying machine.

Save water

Water is used in many of our daily activities. This is a perfect chance to practice conservation. Turn off the water while you brush your teeth or take a shorter shower. Also, on the subject of water, let’s keep our lakes and oceans clean by not fly-tipping into these beautiful bodies of water.

These are just some of the ways to celebrate Earth every day. Try your hand at making our world a better place.
