Take a look back at how English teams have been dominating Europe this past season.

With all the major European football leagues now finished for the season, one thing is certain: a handful of English football teams, such as Liverpool, Manchester City and Spurs, have definitely got their game on. They continue to dominate leagues such as the Premier League, Champions League, and the Europa League.

Let’s have a look back at some of English football teams most glorious moments from this season.

Manchester City winning the Premier League 18/19

The Sky Blues bagged the title once again, having won it last year, and there is not one shred of doubt that they didn’t deserve it. With a whopping total of 98 points they set the bar extremely high. Liverpool, in second place with a gargantuan 97 total points, last won the the title 29 years ago.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who has been well-praised and acknowledged in leading the Blues to victory, spoke to Sky Sports: “We have to say congratulations to Liverpool and thank you so much, they pushed us to increase our standards.” Liverpool put up a brave fight and won their last game of the season 2-0 against Wolves. We can see that the standard of English football had clearly risen this season. The Reds made statements claiming that this is only the first step and there is more to come. For City, this was apparently “the toughest title we have won in all my career, by far,” according to their manager – all thanks to the resistance put up by Liverpool.

Liverpool vs Spurs in the Champions League final 18/19

Although the Liverpool didn’t manage to win the Premier League title, even after putting up such a fight, they were still in the run for the Champions League title. After completely turning their fate around at Anfield in a legendary match against Barcelona, football fans realised Liverpool were there to stay. The Reds suffered a 3-0 loss at the Nou Camp in the first leg of the semi-final and critics and fans alike had started to bet against them. But as the Kop always says, “Anfield is a fortress”. With Liverpool fans providing the players with the confidence boost that they needed, the Reds claimed a stunning 4-0 victory against Barcelona and booked their place in the final for the second year running.

Yet another surprise awaited football fans this year, though. Many would’ve thought that the final would come down to Liverpool versus Ajax, which no doubt would’ve been an exciting match to watch. However, Spurs managed to win their second leg 3-2 against Ajax, winning overall on away goals over the two legs and securing a place in the final against Liverpool.

Despite the excitement of the two semi-finals, the final was something of a drab affair, with Liverpool winning 2-0. Still, the age of English football dominating Europe felt like it had arrived.

Chelsea vs Arsenal in the Europa League final 18/19

Like the Champions League final, another European league final in which two English football teams went against each other was the Europa League. This time it was Arsenal and Chelsea and up for grabs was a place in next season’s Champion’s League.

Both teams fought hard to get to the final. Chelsea’s Eden Hazard hit the winning penalty to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 4-3 in a shootout. While a hat-trick from Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and an Alexandre Lacazette strike booked Arsenal’s place in the final with a 4-2 win at Valencia.

In the end Chelsea beat Arsenal 4-1, denying the latter a place in next season’s Champions League (Chelsea had already secured a place by virtue of their top-four finish in the Premiership).

Whatever happens next season across Europe and at home, there’s seems to be no stopping English football for the foreseeable future.
