Motoring expert Paul Hadley gives us the lowdown on Honda’s latest mid-sized SUV, the CR-V.

The original Honda CR-V was launched in 1997 and has sold over 750k units to date. It’s fair to say the CR-V hasn’t always had the best-looking design, but Honda have made huge improvements in that regard this year. The styling has been completely overhauled with new front bodywork, alloy wheels, daylight running lights and other additions, meaning the outer appearance is finally up to scratch with its SUV counterparts. However, these exterior upgrades are just the beginning.

The Drive

The CR-V comes with two engine options, a 1.6-litre diesel or a 2.0-litre petrol. Our week of testing suggests the diesel model is somewhat superior, as despite its smaller capacity, it’s more efficient and powerful than its 2.2 litre predecessor and this reflects in the overall driving experience. The driving controls are perfectly balanced, so you can enjoy the ride on both short and long journeys with minimal effort, and the high profile tyres and suspension iron out any bumps or potholes in the road – a definite plus when ferrying your little one around town.
