The second generation Jaguar XF is as desirable as it gets for a mid-sized saloon that keeps on offering in abundance.

Ever since replacing the S-Type in 2007, the Jaguar XF feels like it’s been the mid-size saloon of choice for executives the world over. Sleek, sharp looks combined with a luxurious, spacious interior and a high-performance drive cemented the XF’s place as a modern, motoring classic.

Twelve years on and the saloon is in its second generation, which means a slightly more modern design and more tech features on the inside to shout about. For example, Touch Pro infotainment system comes with a 10-inch touchscreen that includes an array of helpful features, from multi-user customisability and audio to maps (where you can pinch and zoom in with such ease). There’s an impressive overall upgrade on the graphics, too.

Making all the difference

The car has two Isofix points on the back seats, which is ideal for families with a couple of younger kids. Further safety considerations included are adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, emergency braking and a 360-degree camera that you can view on the touchscreen, providing you with complete vision of everything around you.

In the boot, there’s now 540-litres of space (more with the rear seats down), which outshines its nearest rivals and is enough to sling in all your family’s luggage, as well as a stroller, for those trips away together. And in both the front and rear seating, the roominess on offer makes all the difference for longer drives.

Well-earned luxury

There are four trims available – Prestige, Portfolio, S and R-Sport – each offering different additional features. With the R-Sport option, there are a few visual tweaks, including a sport front bumper, side spills and boot mounted spoiler. Plus, there are Gloss Black side window surrounds and 18-inch alloy wheels (which are an inch bigger than the base level Prestige trim).

The Jaguar XF R-Sport, with its quickness and agility engendering a high sense of satisfaction behind the wheel, sits perfectly between the smaller XE and larger XJ. Whether you treat it as your family runaround, your business car or your hunk of well-earned luxury – or all three – you might never want to own another motor again.
