Golden athletes Greg Rutherford and Beth Tweddle showed off their sporting skills this weekend at an event to celebrate the launch of LeapBand, the first wearable activity tracker designed just for children.

Rutherford and Tweddle coached 40 children hoping to become the next big athletes as they took part in events including a distance and a relay race. All of the children were wearing the brand new LeapBand, which encourages active play and healthy habits and hits shelves today.

The LeapBand activity tracker gets kids moving and having fun with 50 different activities and challenges, tracking a child’s physical movements so the more active they are, the more points they earn. A choice of eight virtual pets can also be nurtured with healthy treats and as the child earns points through active play, they can unlock additional games, challenges, levels of play and virtual rewards for their on-screen pet.

The launch of LeapBand from LeapFrog, the leader in education entertainment, comes at a time when childhood obesity is under the spotlight with growing concerns from parents looking for guidance.

Greg Rutherford, fresh from winning Gold for England at the Commonwealth Games said: “As an athlete and, more importantly as a future dad, I know how vital it is to inspire kids to get active and a big part of that is making physical activity fun and rewarding, which LeapBand is perfect for.”

Three-time World Champion and Olympic bronze medalist, Beth Tweddle MBE said: “It’s important to give all children the opportunity to try new and different ways of being active. LeapBand is a great, fun way to get kids moving and learning healthy habits. It would be amazing if more little ones were inspired to be future champions after learning that being active is loads of fun!”
