This safe, versatile car seat and base combo from Cybex feels like an essential buy for parents with a vehicle.
Naturally, the most important thing to consider when buying a car seat is the overall safety of it. The Cybex Cloud Z iSize, then, is an extremely safe choice for parents.
The car seat, which makes up part of Cybex’s Platinum Collection, is suitable from birth up to 13kg (around 18 months). Last year, it was rated ‘good’ by ADAC (the German organisation that carries out rigorous car seat safety testing) and also as having ‘excellent overall crash protection’ by Which?, where it picked up a Best Buy Award.
Safety plaudits
These plaudits are in no small part thanks to safety features such as the integrated linear side impact protection. The flexibility of the shell also reduces up to a quarter of any impact force, directing it away from your child.
Safety innovators as ever, Cybex also has a version of the Cloud Z i-Size available with their SensorSafe clip. This clip alerts you immediately if your child unfastens the car seat clip (FYI: did you know that 50 per cent of kids undo themselves or even slip out of their car seat when travelling?) via an app you download to your phone.
It also has a brilliant temperature feature that monitors your child’s temperature and tells you if your child has been in their car seat for a prolonged period, too.
Available separately is Cybex’s Baze Z, which works perfectly with the Cloud Z i-Size (though you’re still able to safely use the seat in your vehicle without the base by securing it with a seat belt.
This particular base is very easy to install in an Isofix-compatible vehicle, with visual stickers it it to guide you. We love the alarm sensor on the leg, too, that tells you if the base isn’t installed correctly – great for extra peace of mind.
Another superb feature is that once the seat is clipped in, which it does so easily, the base can rotate a full 360 degrees, meaning its much easier for you (i.e. less strain on your back) to put in and take out your child.
And once your child has outgrown the Cloud Z, the base is still compatible with the Sirona Z, which lasts up to around four years.
Not just a car seat
As every parent knows, waking up a child mid-sleep can have disastrous consequences! So it’s a relief to know the Cloud Z isn’t just a car seat. Using adaptors (sold separately) you can clip the seat on to a Cybex stroller or, for that matter, other-brand strollers. Transferring your sleeping child from a car seat to a stroller (or vice versa) has never been so easy.
And once on the stroller, the fact that you can extend the seat to a lie-flat position is so good at allowing your child the chance to stretch that little bit more.
This is a premium, beautiful-looking car seat (available in an array of colours) that comes with a lovely long sunshade and, coupled with the functional Base Z, is a combination that should pretty much be at the top of your shopping list if you have a child under 18 months and in need of a safe and reliable car seat.
