John Regis MBE and his daughter Renee Regis on gold medals, family and the long game

When you’ve won 20 medals, you might think you’ve experienced every possible version of standing on a podium. But for former Olympic sprinter John Regis, nothing quite compares to placing a gold medal around his daughter’s neck.

That daughter is 20-year-old Renee Regis, who stormed to victory in the 200m at her first senior Indoor Athletics Championships. John, of course, attended; not just as a proud parent, but as the official presenting her medal. The moment quickly went viral: joyful, emotional, full of family love and pride.

Behind the scenes, this is a family deeply rooted in sport. John runs global sports management agency Astra Partners Global Sports Management alongside his ex-wife, fellow Olympian Jennifer Stoute. Their daughters: Renee and 23-year-old Alicia, have both followed in their parents’ footsteps.

We caught up with John and Renee shortly after her win to talk talent, pressure, parenting, and what it takes to raise a champion.
