Bridgestone Promotes Tyre Safety Awareness

As summer approaches and more UK road trips are planned, Bridgestone emphasises the importance of tyre checks for all drivers.

A recent survey of 2,000 motorists revealed troubling statistics: 63% delay buying new tyres until they fail their MOT, and 23% do not consider the dangers of worn tyres. Alarmingly, 11% wait until their tyres are completely bald. The situation is worse among younger drivers, with three in five neglecting to check tyre conditions.

Government data indicates that around 2.15 million MOT failures annually are due to tyre defects, leading to £416 million in economic costs over the past five years. Helen Roe, Bridgestone’s UK Senior Marketing Manager, stated, “Tyres are the only contact point between a vehicle and the road. Regular checks and maintenance are vital for safety.”

Financial constraints are a concern, with 35% of drivers delaying tyre changes due to costs. Bridgestone’s ‘Be a Bridgestone Road Safety Hero’ campaign aims to address this issue by providing free tyre inspections and raising awareness at events across the country.

To promote safe driving, Bridgestone advises motorists to follow three tyre safety steps:

1. Inspect Regularly: Check tyre pressures and tread depth at least monthly.

2. Know the Law: Ensure tyres meet the legal tread depth of 1.6mm.

3. Ask Experts: Seek professional help if unsure about tyre conditions.

Bridgestone is committed to safety and sustainability through its E8 Commitment, supporting safe mobility for all. For more information on how to stay safe on the roads, visit: https://promotion.bridgestone.co.uk/bridgestone-tyre-care-guide/.
