Here are three things you can add to reinvent an otherwise dull salad.

Salads are so versatile that it’s a shame they have a reputation of being somewhat of a boring dish choice. So we’ve come up with a few ways you can jazz the greens up…

Protein

Protein is essential in growing strong and healthy bodies. It helps us to stay full and build muscle in our bodies. We can also find protein in many forms, not just meat. Of course, feel free to add things like chicken, steak, or any type of fish to your salad. However, if you don’t eat meat, you can include things such as eggs, tofu, edamame, or even chickpeas to add in some extra protein.

Fruit and veggies

The list of fruit and veggies are endless, so you have tons of options when it comes to which to pick for your next salad. Vegetables add different texture and come with a line-up of vitamins and nutrients. Adding fruit will add a touch of sweetness to your salad. Both of these components are also a great way to sneak in more water into your diet. Try adding watermelon, celery, or whatever is in season.

Nuts and seeds

Often forgotten elements, are nuts and seeds. They boast endless benefits for our bodies and adding them into salads are a great way to introduce them to your children. Adding nuts and seeds will add some extra crunch and flavour to your salad. Sunflower and sesame seeds for example, are excellent additions and both help with cholesterol levels. Pomegranate seeds are also fun in salads and are a great source of antioxidants. Nuts such as almonds, walnuts, or pistachios add an extra push of energy and will keep you feeling fuller longer.

You can also drizzle on a simple dressing with a just a few ingredients. Olive oil is an excellent base, add in some salt and pepper and voila! This easy to make dressing will add a layer of freshness to your salad. Check out more recipe ideas here.
