Motorists across the UK are grappling with uncertainty regarding electric vehicles (EVs), according to new research by Bridgestone.

Despite ongoing discussions surrounding electrification, a significant portion of drivers are expressing confusion and concern about making the switch.

The survey highlights that 40% of drivers remain unsure about adopting EVs, a notable increase from 27% in 2024 and just 22% three years prior. Additionally, 27% of respondents indicated they would never purchase an electric vehicle, reflecting a 5% rise over the past two years. Conversely, 53% of participants confirmed their intention to transition to an EV within the next five years.

While conversations about sustainability and lower running costs have become more prevalent, the research indicates that the high upfront cost of purchasing an EV deters 59% of respondents, a marked increase from 42% in 2024. Access to charging infrastructure also remains a barrier for 62% of drivers, although this figure has improved slightly from last year’s 68%. Charging costs are a concern for 53%, and nearly half (48%) still cite range limitations as a significant issue.

Drew Chapman, Consumer Sales Director for Bridgestone, notes that these findings underline the multifaceted challenges of transitioning to electric mobility. “Our research indicates that while there is a strong appetite for EVs, many drivers still lack the confidence to commit,” he remarked.

“At Bridgestone, we aim to simplify this journey, making the transition to electric vehicles easier, more accessible, and less confusing. Our priority is to lead the way in future mobility while ensuring motorists benefit from our latest advanced tyre technology with ‘EV Ready’ products.”

Bridgestone’s ‘EV Ready’ Turanza 6 ENLITEN tyre exemplifies this commitment, designed to suit all types of vehicles, including petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric. The Turanza 6 boasts best-in-class wet performance, superior mileage, and enhanced fuel/energy efficiency, ensuring reliable performance even on rainy days.

All Bridgestone’s ‘EV Ready’ tyres, featuring Enliten technologies, meet both general performance demands and the specific requirements of electric vehicles, thereby making electric mobility more efficient, appealing, and accessible without compromising on high performance.
