Forget France and Switzerland: Romania, Bulgaria and Scotland are among the best up and coming ski destinations.

You heard it here first. If you’re planning a skiing holiday this winter, it’s not the slopes of France and Switzerland you should be heading for. It’s Romania and Bulgaria.

According to Trip Advisor, Brasov County in Romania and Bankso in Bulgaria have just as much to offer as traditional European ski resorts.

Including gorgeous accommodation for all the family:

Carpathian Log Home, Brasov County, Romania

This impressive Carpathian chalet is situated in the middle of an apple orchard, with high ceilings and a glass facade to the valley below. After a full day on the slopes, groups can unwind in the sauna or have a drink on the huge terrace overlooking the breathtaking mountain views.

Four bedrooms (sleeps 12) from £142 per night.

Sestriere Apartment, Sestriere, Italy

Located minutes from the slopes, this cosy apartment is perfect for avid skiers in the winter and summer. Small family groups will enjoy the mountain views from the sunny terrace and can unwind from a long day od skiing by cuddling up in front of the fireplace.

Two bedrooms (sleeps) from £120 per night.
