Kia Sorento 2024 Review

The Kia Sorento has long been a beacon of reliability and versatility for families in the UK, and the latest fourth-generation model is poised to elevate this reputation even further, writes Tim Barnes-Clay.

The Sorento underwent a significant update in 2024, introducing a refreshed exterior, an elegant interior, and an expanded specification lineup that caters to a diverse range of drivers.

At first glance, the updated Sorento makes a bold statement on the road, inspired by Kia‘s flagship SUV, the EV9. The exterior features design upgrades that enhance its rugged yet sophisticated aesthetic. New vertical headlights and ‘star map’ daytime running lights give the front end a high-tech appeal, while redesigned alloy wheels and a new bonnet design contribute to a more commanding presence. The gloss black radiator grille and black side sill mouldings add depth, reflecting a premium image that contrasts beautifully with chrome highlights.

Step inside the 2024 Sorento, and you’ll find a cabin that merges luxury with innovation. The layout showcases an inviting atmosphere, featuring dual-curved 12.3-inch displays dominating the dashboard and ambient lighting setting the mood. Higher-grade models offer fingerprint recognition for added convenience, and the customisable display enhances driving safety without sacrificing style.

Sustainability is a core principle for Kia, and the Sorento reflects this commitment with artificial leather and upholstery made from recycled cloth. The spacious and comfortable interior accommodates various powertrains, including diesel, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options, making the Sorento one of the few vehicles in its segment to offer such diversity.

The Sorento is available in well-equipped trims – ‘2’, ‘3’, and ‘4’ – across all three powertrains, resulting in nine model configurations. Whether you prioritise hybrid options or require the robust reliability of a diesel engine, there’s a Sorento designed to meet your needs. The innovative Smartstream technology guarantees that performance is not compromised, providing peace of mind whether cruising in the city or venturing off the beaten path.

Standing tall in a market saturated with compact SUVs, the Kia Sorento offers more than style. Its comprehensive feature set makes it ideal for families and adventurous individuals alike. The exterior enhancements reinforce its status as a capable SUV, while the thoughtfully designed interior ensures comfort during long journeys. Safety features and the latest technology add layers of assurance, making every trip enjoyable.

Tested here in the ‘2’ grade with all-wheel drive, the Sorento Hybrid features Kia’s ‘Smartstream’ electrified powertrain that combines a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol direct injection engine with a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack. The battery is conveniently located under the front seat, ensuring minimal impact on cabin and cargo space. With seven seats, this car is ideal for larger families.

The electrified powertrain delivers strong performance with lower CO2 emissions, producing a peak power output of 214 bhp and peak torque of 367 Nm. The engine incorporates Kia’s Continuously Variable Valve Duration technology, enhancing performance in low to mid-engine ranges while improving fuel efficiency.

Power is transmitted through a six-speed automatic transmission equipped with a transmission-mounted electrical device, providing quick acceleration response at any speed.

The 2024 Kia Sorento is a remarkable update to an already lauded model. Its striking exterior design and luxurious, tech-forward, roomy interior make it appealing to family-oriented buyers. The Sorento redefines modern SUV ownership – stylish, versatile, and eco-conscious. As it solidifies its position within Kia’s lineup, one thing is clear: the Sorento is not just another SUV; it’s a statement on wheels.
