Skoda Octavia vRS iV Estate Review

The Octavia has been at the core of Skoda for over six decades and has established itself as key to the brand’s ongoing success.

2020 marked the arrival of the all-new fourth-generation model – a safer, and more technologically advanced car than before. Indeed, the newest Octavia delivers even better value and raises the bar for practicality.

What’s more, for the first time, Skoda is offering a model from its vRS family with plug-in-hybrid drive. The new Octavia vRS iV has been fitted with a 1.4 TSI petrol engine and an 85-kW electric motor delivering a combined power output of 245PS and a maximum torque of 400Nm. This is transferred to the front wheels via a standard six-speed DSG gearbox.

Low Emissions

The car’s CO2 emissions sit at around 30g/km in the WLTP cycle. This is low, and means you’ll be doing your bit for the planet if you buy or lease it. Okay, it’s not a zero emissions pure-electric estate, but it’s a damn fine halfway-house if you’re not quite ready to go all-electric just yet.

The high-voltage lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 13kWh, which gives the Octavia an all-electric range of up to 32 miles. In Sport mode, the vRS iV accelerates from zero to 62mph in just 7.3 seconds. Its top speed is 139mph. The progressive steering that comes as standard and dynamic tuning of the sports suspension that is typical for the vRS range cater to energetic driving styles, too.

The Octavia vRS iV has specific LED fog lights and black 19-inch alloy wheels as standard; the brake callipers in vRS-typical red catch the eye. The grille, air curtains, diffuser on the RS-specific front apron, aeroflaps, diffuser on the rear apron and window frames all come in athletic black. Then you get the roof spoiler on the estate, which matches the colour of the car.

Sporty Feel

Looking inside the Octavia vRS iV, the predominantly dark interior stands out. The three-spoke leather multifunction sports steering wheel bears a vRS logo and features paddles for operating the DSG. The front sports seats are upholstered in black fabric, whilst the optional Ergo seats come with leather upholstery as well as seat-depth adjustment.

The seats are also adorned by a vRS logo and coloured decorative stitching in red or silver-grey, which can also be found on the leather steering wheel, on the armrests and on the Alcantara-covered dashboard. Decorative strips and pedals with an aluminium design round off the sporty feel.

Roomy

When it comes to family cars, this estate car is a winner. Not only does it sit five-up in comfort, you also have 490 litres of boot room. Now, that’s more than enough cargo capacity for all the kids’ stuff. On top of that, you get a car that’s quick off the mark – and environmentally friendly. Could you ask for more? Well, yes, you probably could – but then you’d start to sound like your demanding offspring, right?
