A Fresh Start After the Summer Holidays
Time to Reset After Summer Holidays
The summer holidays are a wonderful time to relax, travel and spend more time with family and friends. However, when the holidays are over, your home can sometimes feel a little chaotic. Suitcases may still be waiting to be unpacked, beach towels can be scattered around the house, and cupboards may be full of things you no longer need. This is the perfect moment to give your home a fresh start.
You do not have to clean the entire house in one day. Start with one room or even one cupboard. Put on some music, open the windows and make the process feel positive rather than like a boring chore.
Start with the Suitcases
One of the first jobs after a holiday is dealing with the luggage. Empty your suitcases completely and separate everything into piles. Put dirty clothes straight into the washing machine and fold away anything that is clean. Check pockets for tickets, receipts and other bits and pieces that you may have collected during your travels.
It is also a good idea to look at your holiday wardrobe. Did you wear everything you packed? If there are clothes you never wore, perhaps you do not need to take them on your next trip. Clothes that no longer fit or that you never wear can be donated rather than taking up valuable space.

Clear Out the Clutter
After several weeks away from your normal routine, you may notice things around your home that you have not looked at for months. Use this opportunity to declutter. Go through drawers, shelves and cupboards and ask yourself whether each item is useful, necessary or simply taking up space.
A simple system is to create three groups: keep, donate and throw away. Be realistic. If you have not used something for a long time and cannot imagine needing it in the future, it may be time to let it go.
For smaller items, a Really Useful Box can be an excellent way to keep everything organised. Use clear storage boxes for things such as cables, travel accessories, paperwork or seasonal decorations. Labelling each box will make it much easier to find what you need later.
Give Your Home a Deep Clean
Once the clutter has been removed, cleaning becomes much easier. Dust shelves and surfaces, vacuum the floors and wash any blankets or cushion covers that have been used frequently during the summer.
Do not forget the less obvious areas. Clean inside the fridge, wipe kitchen cupboards and check the bathroom cabinets for products that are empty or out of date. Opening the windows while you clean can also make the whole house feel fresher.

Prepare for the New Season
Finally, think about the weeks ahead. Summer items such as outdoor toys, picnic equipment and beach accessories can be cleaned and stored away. At the same time, bring out anything you will need for autumn, such as warmer clothes, blankets and coats.
The end of the summer holidays does not have to feel like the end of something enjoyable, if you reset. By spending a little time organising and cleaning your home, you can create a calm and comfortable space for the new season. A tidy home can make returning to work, school and everyday routines feel much easier.
